Knit this Santa Hat.
one size fits most adults

Yarn: 1 ball white worsted weight
1 ball red worsted weight
Knitting needles: 4.50mm (US 7/UK 7) or size to obtain tension

Tension: 5 stitches over stockinette stitch = one inch
*
Stitch Pattern
1 x 1 rib stitch (over even number)
Row: knit one, purl one--continue to end of row
Repeat for pattern

Stockinette stitch
Row 1: knit
Row 2: purl
Repeat rows 1 and 2 for pattern
*
Directions
Cast on 80 stitches in white yarn
Work 1 x 1 rib stitch for 3 inches
Work red yarn in Stockinette stitch.
Decrease two stitches every 4th row
Work to desired length
Cast off

Finishing
Sew side seam

Make fringe
Using white yarn
Cut twenty lengths of yarn approximately 24 inches long.
Using a darning needle, thread yarn through the tail of the hat.
Ensure that all ends are the same length.
Tie a square knot near the end of the hat tail.
Trim the ends, if necessary.

Variation: Work the 1 x 1 rib stitch for 6 inches.
